Two ways to put your business on a vehicle door, and they solve different problems. Magnets are in the Magnets & Posters lane; decals are in Stickers & Decals.
Magnets: removable, swappable
A car magnet is printed vinyl bonded to a flexible magnetic sheet. It comes off in a second, so it suits a personal vehicle you also use for work, a leased vehicle, or a fleet where the message changes. It also moves between vehicles.
- Thickness: 30 mil is the vehicle standard. Thinner 20 mil sheet is for indoor and light-duty use like fridge magnets and cut-to-shape promos; on a vehicle at highway speed it can lift. The catalog carries both, and the 30 mil car magnet is the one to pick for a door.
- Common sizes: 12 x 18 and 12 x 24 inches fit most car and pickup doors; 18 x 24 suits vans and box trucks. Measure the flat part of the panel; a magnet needs flat steel, so avoid body lines, molding and plastic bumpers.
- Corners: rounded corners lift less in the wind than square ones. Cut-to-shape magnets are available if the design calls for it.
Decals: permanent, lower profile
A laminated vinyl decal sticks directly to the paint and lies flat, so it looks like part of the vehicle and nobody can walk off with it. It is the right answer for a dedicated work vehicle, for lettering over body lines, and for anything larger than a door panel. Removal later is possible with heat but it is a job, not a second.
- Cut vinyl lettering is single-color letters and logos with no background, cut from colored vinyl. Cleanest look for names, phone numbers and DOT numbers.
- Printed decals carry full-color artwork on white vinyl with a laminate over the print for sun and car-wash resistance.

Caring for magnets so they do not mark the paint
Magnets themselves do not hurt paint; trapped grit and moisture do. Remove the magnet at least weekly, wipe both the magnet back and the panel with a soft cloth, let them dry, and reapply. Do not put a magnet on fresh paint or over a repaint for the first few months, keep it off in automatic car washes, and store it flat, never rolled. On a hot day take it off before it sits in direct sun for hours.
Artwork
Doors are read from across a parking lot, so keep it to a logo, the business name, one line of what you do, and a phone number or web address in letters at least 2 inches tall. Build the file at the final size with 1/8 inch bleed, vector where possible. The file checklist covers the rest.
