Good to know

Ordering and artwork, answered.

How pricing, files, proofs and the design service work. If your question is not here, email us.

Do I need an account to see prices?

Yes. Sign in with your email and that is the account: no password to set. Every product then shows a live quote by size and quantity, with the per-piece price on each tier. Ordering also needs an account so your files and proofs stay attached to your order.

How do I send my print file?

Attach it when you add the item to the cart. PDF is preferred; AI, EPS, SVG, PNG, JPG, TIF and PSD work too, up to 20 MB. Bigger files, or files you do not have yet, can be emailed to sales@print.doctor with your order number after you order.

What does the file check look at?

Before checkout your file is read in the browser and compared with what you ordered: the size against the ordered size, 1/8 inch of bleed on every side, resolution at print size (300 dpi for small pieces, 100 dpi for signs and banners that are read from a distance), CMYK versus RGB colour, embedded fonts and the page count. You see it as a press proof with the trim, bleed and safe-area lines drawn on your artwork.

What if the check finds a problem?

You can fix the file and upload it again, approve the proof and have it printed as it is, or ask us to make basic fixes for a small fee shown in the quote: resizing to the ordered size, adding bleed, converting RGB to CMYK and outlining fonts. That is not a redesign; if a file needs more than that we may decline the fix and suggest the design service instead.

Can you design it for me?

Yes, on every product. Choose "Design it for me", tell us what it should say and look like, and add a logo, sketch or photo if you have one. Our designers lay it out and email you a proof within 24 to 48 hours. Three rounds of revisions are included; each round adds time before it prints. The design fee is added to your cart as its own line.

How do two-sided items work?

When you pick a two-sided option a second upload appears for the back. Send one file per side, or a single two-page PDF with the front as page 1 and the back as page 2.

Why do some items say "Pricing on request"?

Those are priced to your spec. Email sales@print.doctor with what you need and we price it and set it up on your account.

Do you serve Columbus, or only Lincoln?

Both. The shop is in Lincoln and the service area covers Lincoln and Columbus, Nebraska. Because everything is ordered online, a Columbus order gets the same file check, the same designers and the same catalog; finished work ships to you and shipping shows in checkout. See the Columbus page.

Is the file check free?

Yes. It runs in your browser on every upload, before checkout, and costs nothing. Only the optional fixes (adding bleed, resizing, converting RGB to CMYK, outlining fonts) and the design service carry a fee, and both are shown in the quote before you accept them.

How do I set up my file?

Build it at the ordered size plus 1/8 inch of bleed on every side, keep text 1/8 inch inside the trim, use 300 dpi for small pieces and 100 dpi for signs and banners, convert to CMYK, and export a PDF with fonts embedded. The print-ready file checklist walks through each step, and the Guides cover banners, yard signs, stickers, car magnets, window graphics and business card stocks.

Die-cut or kiss-cut stickers?

Die-cut goes through the backing, so the sticker is the shape; that is the one you hand out. Kiss-cut leaves the backing whole around the sticker, so it peels easily and mails flat. Sheets put several kiss-cut stickers on one backing. Finishes and surfaces are in the sticker guide.

Car magnet or vehicle decal?

A magnet comes off in seconds and moves between vehicles; 30 mil is the thickness that stays put at highway speed. A laminated decal is permanent, lies flat and suits a dedicated work vehicle. Sizes, care and window options are in the car magnet guide.

Where are you?

The Print Doctor is in Lincoln, Nebraska, and serves Lincoln and Columbus. There is no walk-in storefront; everything is ordered online. Phone 402-783-8147, email sales@print.doctor. Online ordering is open 24/7, 365 days a year. Signs, banners, stickers and decals are printed and cut in our own shop; cards, paper print, apparel and promo items run through the trade printers we work with, behind the same file check. We are also on Facebook.

Are you cheaper than Sticker Mule, VistaPrint or Staples?

Usually, and we check. We price the catalog against the big national printers product by product and aim to come in under them at the same size and quantity. If you find the same product for less, bring us the price before you order and we will match it and take up to 10% more off, down to what the job costs us to produce. The rules that keep that fair are on the price promise page.
