What embroiders well
Embroidery is thread, not ink, so it favors bold shapes over fine detail. Solid logos, wordmarks, initials and simple icons come out crisp and last as long as the garment. Photos, gradients and thin script do not translate; if your logo is one of those, a simplified one-color or two-color version stitches far better, and our designers can prepare that from your file.
- Keep text at least 1/4 inch tall so letters stay open.
- A front cap logo usually runs 2 to 2.5 inches wide; a polo chest logo 3 to 4 inches.
- Thread colors are matched to your artwork; exact brand colors are approximated with the closest thread.
Digitizing
Before a logo can be stitched it has to be converted into a stitch file, which is called digitizing. Each product lists a digitization fee option: None if you already have a stitch file (DST or similar), Text only for a name or plain lettering, or Graphics, which is quoted with your order based on the logo's complexity. It is a one-time step; the same stitch file is reused on every future order.
The items
- Structured and unstructured caps: six-panel twill caps, flexfit-style fitted caps, and classic snapbacks, in a range of solid colors.
- Beanies: knit cuffed beanies in solids and heathers.
- Polos: performance and pique polos in men's and women's cuts, XS to 6XL on most styles.
Fabric and style details by product are on the apparel materials page.
Sending the logo
A vector file (PDF, AI, SVG) is best because the digitizer can trace clean edges. A large PNG works. If you already have a DST stitch file from a previous embroiderer, upload that and choose the "None" digitization option. Either way the file check shows a proof before checkout, and the stitched piece follows the approved artwork.
Printed shirts instead?
